Tokyo Capital of the East - "The journey ..."

For TikisMikis , 09/07/2009 9:11 pm

Actually this article was not to be. My plans were to prepare a complete and comprehensive guide for our trip 14 days in Japan. But "The Force of Destiny" (I just remembered this song from Mecano) made us change a wonderful tour for an adventure in Tokyo.

Do not think that this post is sad, nothing could be further from reality, is an account of what happened to us on our journey "injured" to the country of the Rising Sun. To the point.

The Journey

To go to Japan is that half the planet crossed between "bells and whistles" 24-hour trip. Let me explain. We left Madrid airport on Tuesday at 10:00 am Amsterdam Road KML , after about 2 hours and Almeida flight landed at Amsterdam airport without incident. We have two hours to stretch your legs before boarding your flight will take us to Tokyo.

I see the plane that will take us to Tokyo is a great device a Boeing 777-200ER , a whole "champion" of the sky, and now I am more relaxed (not because ..., well maybe is that I have fear of flying, and that which to me is not the first time I fly, but always I have that feeling of nervousness, I take it off).

We ship lots of people, inside the plane is huge, two rows of three seats on the sides and a central row of four seats about 300 passengers more or less. It makes a nice day in Amsterdam, we took off about 15:30 pm in front of about 14 flight hours or so. For a person who is not accustomed to flying a trip of that length gives a bit of trouble, so there are a few tips:

  • Do not think too much about the journey many times and is best not to think too much. Be patient.
  • Take away some entertainment, such as a game console for a few hours will do. When battery runs out something else butterfly.
  • The onboard entertainment system can help you much, there are movies, games, documentaries, etc. .. I must say that the KLM system is awesome, movies, classic, about a hundred movies, almost anything.
  • Try to walk a little from time to time, and the seat moves the legs, contract and stretch. This will avoid problems of blood circulation.
  • If you are not allergic or contraindicated have it, you can take an aspirin every 8 hours. This improves blood circulation. I recommend that you consult with your doctor before taking any medication.
  • Try to sleep if you can not ask the doctor to prescribe some muscle relaxant that helps.
  • Takeoff and landing chewing gum, it helps to equalize the pressure in the ears.

Narita Airport

After many hours of flight will arrive at your destination, in our case is the airport of Narita in Tokyo, well, some 65Km from Tokyo, I must say that we can see that Japan. Everything, absolutely everything is planned and organized. Tell them on the plane during the flight, give you a form to fill out immigration data, then you must present customs at the airport. Well, there are people dedicated to putting people in the queues, at the office make you a picture and record your tracks, about 2 minutes at most, a record considering we were there about 300 people.

There are many things that surprised to come to Japan, one of which is that everything is spotless, although transit through there hundreds of people. It is normal because the Japanese are obsessed with cleaning up the streets are really clean.

Visit a toilet in Japan is a different experience, if this does not cause you laugh, since access to one of them is to face a mass of buttons, levers and other electronic gadgets. And we must learn to use them, as they are designed to not use their hands, including entry and exit doors are automatic.

To get to Tokyo, do not complicate buses that take you to the hotels, just get the ticket counters for, and ask which bus takes you to your hotel, if you understand the English chattering with people.

The Keio Plaza Hotel Destination

The Japanese drive on the wrong side of the road, ie the left, like the British, or Australians. This is not relevant, but is curious, as are most countries they believe those who drive on the left. After 1 hour and 30 minutes by bus, more or less, we arrived at our hotel the Keio Plaza Hotel .

Ibiza - Formentera The largest ...

For TikisMikis , 19/05/2009 12:00 am

Ibiza has a something special (as the song referring to another Spanish city), it is not surprising, since the first time you get to the island did not you imagine it that way. At the moment there is a lot more vegetation than it can be for example the Greek islands (in particular those belonging to the Cyclades), the buildings are small and typically Mediterranean, we are an island charm

Puesta de sol en San Antonio, Ibiza

Sunset in San Antonio, Ibiza

There is an urban legend that says that if life on Earth ended, Ibiza would be the last bastion of life. I do not know if it has scientific basis or it is simply those things that people say to increase the idyllic atmosphere of the island. In any case it is worth knowing, to be prepared.

Many people associate Ibiza night, the macro discos and parties until dawn beyond. Well, that depends on two factors: The first is the area of the island where you move, and the other is the time of the year in which the visit.

My intention in writing this guide is to describe what I saw and felt during my visit to the island from a different viewpoint. Looking for a guide to partying in Ibiza, is not the item that you see, try Google.

When to go

Before visiting Ibiza you have to raise that kind of tourism you do on the island, since according to this you will have to visit some other areas of the island or in a time of year. We visited in late May, just before starting "openings" of the big clubs, so in general everything was pretty quiet.

Everything begins to "collapse" when the month of July and lasts until September, so the month of June is also a good option if you want some peace. As I discussed during the months of July, August and September, the island multiplied by 10 (yes, ten), its population. Imagine, for the rest of the year its population of about 110,000 inhabitants.

A brief tour of the island

To reach the island you have two tracks, not more, by the airport by air or sea port, in both cases you are in Eivissa (Ibiza). You can arrive by sea to other parts of the island but is most common. I recommend you rent a car upon arrival, it is best to explore the island and to move around the places you are going to recommend.

Ibiza has several significant urban centers, one of them is Eivissa (Ibiza) which is the capital, and another is Sant Antoni de Portmany (San Antonio) located at the other end of the island (you can "play" with the google maps and localize it is very easy), no more than 10 km between them. There are other places worthy of interest such as Santa Eulalia des rius (Santa Eulalia del Rio) who much quieter and there will be no more than 10 minutes drive to it.

Captus a orillas del mar, San Miguel, Ibiza

Cactus by the sea, San Miguel, Ibiza

To tour the island you have to take into account that there is a road that runs along the coast completely, and that there are places worth visiting, these are what I recommend you:

  • Santa Eulalia
  • San Antonio
  • San Miguel
  • Sant Joan
  • Ibiza

You should not go to Ibiza without ...

There are two things you must do inevitably, in my view, before you go to Ibiza. One of them is seeing a sunset and the other to visit the Café del Mar . If you visit the Café del Mar, at the time of the sunset contemplate a sunset beaten.

To visit the Café del Mar, go to San Antonio, if you arrive from Ibiza to the port and taking the sea front, you go right along the harbor, until the track is just for running with the vehicle. At that time trying to park the car because you can not get on it. You'll find the tour continues up a ladder to the right, pursue it and in about 5 minutes walking you will find it. It's easy to get there. I recommend you go soon before sunset, because then it is packed, and finding a place is complicated. A mojito, helps pass the time ...

Another incredible sunset, which is what you see in Cala Comte , the view is as spectacular as San Antonio, the famous know very well, and have their houses, over there. The beaches of Comte, who named the place so you have to locate, are a great place to watch sunsets. From San Antonio you should take the road to Puig des Rocar, then take the road to Cala Comte that takes you to the beach. Worthwhile.

Puesta de sol desde Cala Comte, Ibiza

Sunset from Cala Comte, Ibiza

Do not think that this is the only thing worth seeing and enjoy Ibiza, there are many more things, which we reported in this travel guide.

By visiting the places you recommend to go make sure you remain as you found them or even better if you are posible.Gracias.

Paris, guide not to miss ...

For TikisMikis , 23/02/2009 9:00 pm

The city of lights, traps and love, I admit. By not having ever visited, I had a sense of idealized Paris that has been overtaken by the feelings I've experienced.

Of all the sensations that gives you Paris, the most striking is confronted with the sight of the Eiffel Tower. I mean really big deal because it is impressive and it seems unreal. Beside the whole city looks like a toy, and at night to stroll along the Champs de Mars becomes more unrealistic if possible.

Torre Eiffel al anochecer

Eiffel Tower at dusk

Paris is a city that lives in the face of the river, "The Seine" Unlike other cities that clearly living back to their rivers. Most of the monuments and sites are located on both sides of river.

Paris is a monumental city of palaces, museums, neighborhoods and culture. There are many places to visit so we will try to tell our experience. But first we're going with the basics, how to get, how to move, where to stay, and where to eat, to the end of the day are basic needs.

Getting to Paris from Beauvais

To get to Paris by air (which is the most common way to get where parts of far), there are three alternatives in the form of airport: Charles de Gaulle , that of Orly , and Beavuais .

If you land in Beavuais then travel with Ryanair , almost 95% accuracy. Remember that if you travel with this low cost carrier, you have to be very scrupulous with the luggage, pq them are. The rules now apply (except to amend) are: 1 piece of cabin per person, a bag to check in person with a maximum of 15 Kilos, the rest of baggage to pay.

As an anecdote I tell you they are really cheap and punctual, but they make you feel like cattle they carry. The truth is that air transport is changing so much so that it no longer cool to fly with these companies now that are getting larger batteries, but if you're on a budget are a good option.

From Beavuais to Paris by bus is a half hour or so, depends on the traffic at the entrance to Paris. The ticket costs about 26 euros per person round trip. My advice is to saqueis the return ticket, as it has a very high validity in days (you better be sure if you go less than a week or two), and so you avoid wasting time you around. Returning Be careful to be on the bus about 3 hours before flight departure time. Do not confide because the bus leaves at the time and if you lose, it's hard Beavuais reach the airport on time. I read somewhere that some people have missed the bus and had to take a taxi to the airport. Think there an hour and a half away by bus.

Once you arrive in Paris, the bus will leave you beside the congress hall in the square " Porte Maillot ". From there I recommend you take the subway, which you have the same façade of the palace that overlooks the square. Bajeis words, when the bus, you will see the hotel Lafallete, and right glued to this one large building. This is the convention center, access to the subway is next to the entrance. Remember that tickets paris underground are of 2 types in red letters and says "Metro", and yellow letters and says "Metropolitan." I say this because they are so easy to see how london.

Arco del Triunfo

Arc de Triomphe

Getting around Paris

My advice is that you shake your meter in Paris, which has an impressive infrastructure, everything is very well signposted, and is very punctual and fast. Some people prefer traipsing the city, although to me it seems somewhat extreme. Please note that the distances are enormous.

Once chosen the metro, I suggest you pilleis a ticket of type " Paris Visite "This pass also gives you discounts on the tickets of some interesting places you have discounts on the plane that will give them to buy the ticket if do not ask.

The ticket " Paris Visite "allows you to walk around the paris metro areas the distributions. My advice is that you pilleis in Zone 1-2 or 1-3. The pass for zones 1-6, is recommended if you're going to go somewhere far away from Paris, not worth it, but it yourselves. To give you an idea, the 1-3 zone pass for five days costs € 28.30 per person, and allows you unlimited access to underground within the area. A single ticket costs € 1.30 make account and see if you compensated. If you want to have an updated reference price to go to the home page l paris metro . You subway this ticket may be used for buses and nearby.

Subway safety, I will say that the person who was with me told me that he had always been an incident in the metro. In four days I've been I assure you that I took the subway to move lot of paris, and I have not seen any incident, we have taken in the morning, afternoon, evening (8 Dela later), and the end of week. Maybe this is because they have increased security in the subway, and sometimes you see groups of 2-3 people on patrol, sometimes even with dogs.

Staying in Paris

While staying in Paris is expensive, you can find accommodation with charming downtown and not "arruinantes" (allow me the expression). We chose the area near the Eiffel Tower, especially next to a street that has a special charm, the street Cler .

There are several hotels around this street: Hotel du Champs de Mars, Hotel Valadon , Hotel Du Cadran. We chose an offer from the Hotel Du Cadran , to 116 euros per night we were in a very nice and completely renovated. A discovery and 2 minutes from the subway entrance.

We agree with that are undertaking reforms in Hotel Du Cadran, particularly in the hotel lobby. We were assured that the works would not bother us, and I must say that was so. It is also true that we got up early and went to bed too late, so most of the time we were outside the hotel. As for the housing regime, we choose only the room, as some hotel there are numerous cafes where they are happy to serve breakfast. One tip, take a look and see the offers in different cafes in the area, in some cases there is difference in price. I recommend the "Cafe Du Mars" for breakfast, because in addition to being right next to the hotel for 4 euros or so, I served an orange juice, cafe con leche, a croissant or toast.

Notre Dame

Dining in Paris

Do not worry if you are very tikis mykiss at lunchtime, the French like to eat, that's obvious so I'll tell the local cuisine is not known worldwide. That is not the subject of this article. If your goal is to eat more or less cheap, you have several possibilities.

Option Bakery - Sandwich. It is usually very common in bakeries sell you snacks ready to go eat on the go. This option is good if you do not want to waste time and is economical. Besides the sandwiches are usually very tasty, they lack the butter, cheese, tomato, and what they want to.

Choice Foods of the world. In Paris people of different cultures live together, so besides the "traditional" American hamburger, you Kebah for all sites, Chinese, Japanese, a little of everything. I was surprised that unlike other cities I've visited London, in Paris on McDonnalds are difficult to see compared to London that you turn the corner and you're three. We notice that France does not win the American fast-food.

Eating in the Latin Quarter

Due to the circumstances of the trip, agreed that we had to stop for lunch in the Latin Quarter of Paris. Being very close to Notre Dame , and full of tourists like you, I recommend you look a little tender, and "paint" the room, because there are many differences between the two sites and others. If you sit down to dinner with drinking and everything will rarely fall below 12 euros per person if you're lucky.

Eat near Galeries Lafayette

Beside the Galeries Lafayette is the boulevard of the Italians, so guess what kind of restaurant you can find. It's amazing the amount of Italian restaurants, at prices of Paris (15-19 euros per person menu). Do the same as in the Latin Quarter, invest a little time to see the prices, there is much difference. Above all the most expensive are those that are ready for tourists, flee from them.

Eat in Montmartre

Unlike the Latin Quarter, and the Galeries Lafayette area in the district of Montmartre, behind the church, and next to the square where the painters, I recommend a restaurant. It's called " Chez Ma Cousin ", and added to the friendliness of its staff joins do that at night cabaret shows, if you heard right. The daily menu goes for about € 10.50 per person, drinks included. Worthwhile.

Detalle de MontMatre

Montmartre Detail

Dining in the Eiffel Tower area

You will not have trouble finding a good site, if you move away a little of the Eiffel Tower. Building on that we were near the Rue Cler, in this street there are numerous Brasserie. Among the specialties I recommend the oysters, as about 15 € you get a plate full to overflowing at Cafe du Mars. If the same spot where we had breakfast, and take advantage of this nearby.

Sites you should visit

To taste the colors, but here I put my list of favorites:

  • Eiffel Tower at night
  • Eiffel Tower and admire the view up
  • Visit Paris sailing on the Seine
  • Arc de Triomphe in the Place Charles de Gaulle
  • Notre Dame
  • The Louvre Museum
  • Centre Pompidou
  • Invalides
  • Montmartre
  • Galeries Lafayette
  • Flea Market:
  • Latin Quarter

What is a Bed and Breakfast?

For TikisMikis , 12/02/2009 12:34 am

one person asked me today ....

Bed and Breakfast or B & B, means "bed and breakfast" (but that's easy if you use any online translator, I always use that of Google ).

Habitación B&B en Brujas

The concept was born in the UK after the Second World War, at that time was moving a lot of people looking for work, even foreigners who arrived in the country in search of trabajo.Como the economic situation was not very good, people opened their homes these guests that available at a modest price of a bed with the right to breakfast. This model was exported throughout Europe, reaching the United States, in Spain we know as "Pension." But let us have stories ...

Compare the current concept of B & B with the "Pensions", does not seem right, since both the accommodations and the service is of higher quality (if you're patient and looking). Currently, B & B are back, because they are cheap accommodations comfortable and in environments that are worth staying. I mean, they are sometimes refurbished accommodation in the historic, where each room has a kitchenette and individual WC. It is customary at times to share the house with the owners. In that case the property is entitled to preserve the privacy of the family who live there, but at breakfast time do it with your family.

The B & B, is a good way to meet people, and know the customs of the site visits.

View of the caldera in Oia (Santorini)

Dolce Sitges (Sitges)

For TikisMikis , 20/01/2009 3:54 pm

This past September 2008, I had the opportunity to visit once more a place that fascinates me, Sitges. I love the old town, with its steep streets empredadas, I love walking in the shopping area, and around the Church which presides over one hand the people and other sea.

Sitges has a number of facilities equipped to accommodate visitors, are held in the promenade, within the town, modern, classic, expensive and cheap, in short for all tastes.

If you want a site with a special charm in a place nice and quiet, I recommend the hotel " Dolce Sitges "belonging to the resort hotel chain" Dolce . " It is located on the outskirts of Sitges, in a residential area near a golf course, so have that to access the drive or use the bus service provided by the hotel.

Night view of the pool at the hotel Dolce Sitges

It is a resort used mainly for conventions, and it shows that it is okay pensado.Ya impressive from the outside as it is composed of several buildings: the convention center, the hotel reception with services such as restaurants, bar, etc. .. and finally the rooms with pool and spa so tranquility is assured. In addition, the complex is surrounded by a neighborhood of luxury villas and a golf course and Mediterranean sea in the background.

Upon entering the reception you realize you are in a 5 star hotel as the decor is to match, and the hotel service in general. It has a street level bar and restaurant are at the bottom of the hotel overlooking the gardens.

Access to the rooms is a bit messy, because the building used for this purpose is shaped like a crescent, and the corridor that leads to the winds in the same room, so if you are assigned a room at the far end of receiving just a little dizzy, and feeling of never arrive. One trick is to go by the pool, and avoid meandering corridors, saving considerable time.

Detalle nudos marineros

Detail sailor knots

As for the rooms have all the amenities: minibar, iron, coffee maker, and room service is very efficient, you always leave a chocolate on the pillow. You have to connect to wireless internet if necessary. The only caveat, is that they have been on the decor a little outdated, this is not an obstacle to enjoy the hotel.

As for the food, I can only talk about the breakfast buffet is the most impressive I've ever seen, and there really is an incredible variety. It is up to the hotel no doubt.

My advice is that you use the services of the hotel: spa, breakfast buffet. For lunch and dinner you can do in the hotel or go to the town and that the choice of restaurants is amazing.

About the price, I guess you've guessed it's not exactly cheap but occasionally does not hurt to indulge. I definitely recommend the "Dolce Sitges" to spend a few relaxing days, in great detail.

The Privilege of Tena (Tena Tramacastilla)

For TikisMikis , 23/12/2008 4:26 pm

We have missed a weekend at the Aragonese Pyrenees, namely Tramacastilla de Tena , in Valle de Tena. I did not know this town, but I must say that I have been impressed. The town center is very well kept, and all households maintain a harmony in its construction.

Edificios en Tramacastilla de Tena (Huesca)

Tena Hotel Privilege

" The privilege "is a small mountain hotel which we had heard very good reason why we chose him on the expense of the Hotel Monasterio in Boltaña . The first impression is very good, since the treatment of people who work there are excellent and are really nice. The decoration of the hotel we liked, but could be improved in some respects because it is a 4 star hotel. I make this assessment because we detected a lack of accessory elements usually found in hotels of this category even in lower categories. These details do not stay far from uncomfortable, but cause the value for money is not 1-1. We communicated to the hotel in the survey of quality they usually do when you leave the room and I am sure they will take good note.

Hotel El Privilegio de Tena, Tramacastilla de Tena (Huesca)

Hotel The Privilege of Tena, Tramacastilla de Tena (Huesca)

SPA has a small and very cozy, with a jacucci, a dry sauna, a Turkish bath, cold-hot water, steam shower cold (with essence of roses), and a pool with moving water that allows you to swim upstream. You can find all the treatments offered: Mud, Chocolate, hydrotherapy, massages, facials, although I recommend you to book time while you reserve the room, otherwise you can find this completely.

The restaurant is located on the lower floor of the hotel, has a capacity up to 100 people, but to make it cozy enabled. The treatment and the service is in line with the hotel and the food is excellent. As a la carte meal, between courses lengthened the wait a bit, but worth it. I recommend the "hot apple micuit Pedro Ximenez," and the fresh Cod.

Activities and places to visit

Clearly, visit the Aragonese Pyrenees Winter lends itself to the sport of skiing. About Tramacastilla de Tena is very close to the ski resorts of Panticosa and Formigal . Of course, if you visit places like curious, I recommend the Spa Panticosa .

In short, a "corner" for a weekend escape, and forget everything ... (highly recommended).

Sitges

For TikisMikis , 14/11/2008 8:39 pm

Islas Griegas – “El Alojamiento”

For TikisMikis , 15/04/2008 9:47 pm

The level of establishments outside Spain is very uneven, and you never know what you'll find. Make no mistake, if we spend all day looking at places and out of the room, the least we need is that the bathrooms are clean, the bedding and it is also looking at a general level is good.

Según el viaje que esteis preparando os puede apetecer alojaros en algún establecimiento lujoso y especial; en ese caso os recomiendo las siguientes webs: RelaisChateux , The Leading Hotels of the World , TabletHotels ; os aseguro que son especiales, y no os defraudarán.

Entrada a un alojamiento en Mikonos

Entrance accommodation in Mykonos

We propose a journey of style Bed and Breakfast (B & B) "as the Greek Islands lend themselves to it, and the end result is more than good for several reasons: the treatment of people, quality, and great variety. To book these facilities you have two options: the earlier you book online, or going on an adventure to see what you offer.

Book online

In the case of the Greek islands we chose Greekislands-GreekHotel that allows you to reserve rooms in any of the islands. Highly recommended if you want to have things more or less tied before starting the trip.

La llegada en los ferrys

I call this section as well as the booking is made at the time to get off the ferry. This option is for those of you who like adventure and I like to go without anything booked, simply if you do not like a place you are going to another. I had read somewhere a guide but do not see it until you do not believe. Upon reaching the ports you are a true legion of people offering accommodations (depending on the time of year many of them you should go to you if you have ever sounded on web -GreekHotel Greekislands ), and can get discounts on the price derivative the need to occupy all the rooms they offer. This makes them extremely persistent when it comes to offering their services.

To stay for Athens, first I will tell you our experience. Like when we went to there was not clear which areas were good to stay, we did evaluating the following parameters: location near Plaka, access to public transport in this case the meter, the features of the hotel and of course the price.

The capital is difficult to find sites cheap, well located, well that depends on what "Tikis Mikis" you to be. Let me explain.

I recommend you not be staying in Piraeus Avenue (the avenue that connects Athens with the port of Piraeus), as it has no charm, it is very noisy and dirty. The Odeon Hotel (Avenida Piraeus), where we stayed was clean and looked ok, but the truth was not the best accommodation in Greece, there still remains the reference. Furthermore, I will be very welcome to visit the Acropolis.

Staying in Paros

On the island of Paros there are many interesting sites, one of them is Naoussa . This fishing village north of the island has a special charm that attracted our attention.

We chose as a place of accommodation " Manis Inn "because we liked the position he was and the quality of the site as a whole, not to mention that it is a Bed & Breakfast. For about 100 euros a night including breakfast (prices on the web in April 2008).

Piscina en Manis-In, Naoussa (Paros)

Swimming in Manis-In, Naoussa (Paros)

Alojarse en Santorini

The Santorini has no name, I recommend you leave it for last, as usual the rest of Cyclades Islands assure you that will surprise you. To sample some photos from the room, overlooking the Caldera.

Vista a la caldera en Oia (Santorini)

View of the caldera in Oia (Santorini)

The Caldera is the center of the volcano, where the island offers the best views.

We choose Oia for a reason that will tell you in the chapter on Santorini. Now forgive me but I have to keep a bit of interest .... For about 90 € without breakfast included.

  • In Athens it is better to stay in Plaka, the rest of the city has no interest.
  • In Paros, Naoussa worth to stay, and if not to visit, is a peculiar town.
